Tim Scott is the current junior U.S. Senator of South Carolina and former U.S. Representative from the state’s 1st congressional district. He was appointed in 2013 to replace the retiring conservative stalwart, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint. Scott then won a special election in 2014 and then election to a full term in 2016. Scott has a long record of public service, first beginning at the local level. He grew up poor, is a committed Christian, pro-life, and a conservative with an agreeable tone. He is the longest serving black Senator in the U.S. Senator and currently one of three.
